PTA Collection
PTAs
in Howard County are asked to help in 3 collection drives this school
year. The drives meet PTA’s goals of child advocacy by promoting
the welfare of children at home and in school. Howard County Public
School System Pupil Personnel Workers will distribute these items
that are collected to needy Howard County students.
Please inform your membership about this year's three PTA collection
drives one month before the items are brought to the PTA Council General
Membership meeting to ensure a successful response. Donations
will be collected at the PTA Council General Membership meeting on
the dates listed below. Thanks for your help in this collection drives
that directly help children in our county!
1. Coat Drive - November 5th New or gently
used, clean coats that are ready to wear (no need to repair) in sizes
pre-K through; high school sizes. Hats and gloves are also welcome.
2. Book Drive - January 7, 2008 New or gently used
children, youth and adult books. Help is needed to sort books.
Contact PTA Council at 410-740-5153 (students are welcome to help for
volunteer hours) if you can help.
3. School Supplies Drive - June 2, 2008 New school
supplies and backpacks will be collected. Help is needed during the
summer to sort supplies and stuff backpacks. Contact PTA Council
if you can help.

FARM CITY FAMILY WALK - SEPT.
29TH
8:30 - 10:30 AM AT CLARK'S ELIOAK FARM
Come join Howard County families
for a FREE, noncompetitive Family Walk through a local farm.
Expose your family to the history and importance of farming in Howard
while intertwining nutrition education, physical activity and fun into
the day through special booths and activities along the way and
following the walk. Clarks Elioak Farm is located at 10500

HCPSS NEWS
The
Board of Education of Howard County regularly holds “Coffee &
Conversation” sessions at schools throughout the county. These
meetings provide citizens with an opportunity to share a cup of coffee
and chat informally with Board members. The meetings are held in
various regions of the county but interested persons from throughout the
county are invited to attend any or all of the meetings. The next
“Coffee & Conversation” session with the Board of Education will
be held:

month the Parent Teacher Connection
takes an in-depth look at the Maryland High School Assessments,
Howard County’s HSA results for the Class of 2009, options
for students who don’t pass, and alternative tests being developed for
Special Education students.

abusive teen relationships from Robin McClave, a counselor with the
Howard County Domestic Violence Center, in the "What Parents Are
Asking” segment.

Teacher Connection
is a locally produced program that can be seen Wednesday nights
throughout September at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., Saturdays at noon and 7
p.m., and Sundays at 5 p.m. on Comcast Cable Channel 72 and Verizon
Channel 42.
