NEARING THE FINISH LINE
PTA's are winding down in
preparation for the end of school. But PTA work is really not over
until the following items have been completed.
1. Disbursement requests.
Remind everyone to turn in their receipts so that
all bills will be paid by the end of the fiscal year which
is?
(Answer: June 30)
2. Form the review/audit
committee for July's duty of completing the audit over the summer.
For details on how to prepare for the
audit/review, click on the Resources header here on this page.
Then click on Preparing for the Annual Review (audit). This
is a summer REQUIRED duty. It is required of your insurance policy
and your bylaws. And it is just good fiduciary policy. The PTA is
a incorporated entity and must follow good practice of the income of the
PTA is spent as the budget provides. No one likes to think of
embezzlement but it has occurred in our county in recent years.
After your financial review is completed, send a copy to the PTAC office
please.
3. Begin to organize
and clean out your notebook/files in preparation
of turning them over to the new officer.
5. Write
a year-end letter/newsletter
article to the membership highlighting the advocacy activities, special
events and programs your PTA participated in the school year.
You need to draw attention to yourself, “toot your own horn so
to speak”.
Don’t be shy; you’ve done a great job!
6.
Thank all the volunteers that have
made the PTA and school successful.
Create certificates and distribute them with a thank you note.
7.
Host a
‘volunteer luncheon’ or assembly to honor the volunteers at all
levels
8.
Tally the number of volunteer
hours dedicated to promote the PTA in your school.
Recognize those who have volunteered specific numbers of hours,
e.g., 100 hours+, 250 hours+, 500 hours+, and maybe even 1,000 hours+.
For some members, this is their full time job outside of their
home. Recognition in front
of peers is a wonderful way to say thank you.
9.
Most
importantly, evaluate your own status on
the PTA. Do
you have an interest to go forward in
some leadership role and
neglected to give your name to the nominating committee?
It is never too late to volunteer!
There is always a job to do, either at the local, council or
state levels of PTA. Is
there a future there for you?
10. As your Elections are
being held in the next few weeks, be sure to complete the new
officers contact form found the
home page of this website, complete and make a copy for everyone on your
exec board and send one to the PTAC office by June 16.
