The Gift of
Reading Book Drive has collected over 9,000 books this
year. Thanks for
helping to give our children the Gift of Reading.
NEW/RETURNING OFFICER WORKSHOP
– MAY 20TH 7 – 9 PM FAULKNER RIDGE CENTER
The PTAC Officer Workshop and Sharing
Session is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20th from 7-9, at the
Faulkner Ridge Center, 10598 Marble Faun Court, Columbia. No
RSVP is needed. This session is designed for new and current
officers of the local PTAs, as well as, committee chairs and
anyone else that is interested.
This is a great opportunity for new PTA
officers and others to gain valuable information that will
help them achieve their objectives for the next school year.
The evening will conclude by 9:00 pm and refreshments will be
served.

– 8 PM - This session will be for PTA Presidents and
other local PTA officers.
(There
is a separate session for the Treasurer.) We will focus on
specific
officer
training and: how to improve communications to parents,
after-school
activities,
and increasing volunteerism/membership within your school.

– 8 PM - This session will be the Treasurer's Workshop
led by our PTAC Treasurer,
Bob
Rosenberg. This workshop/training is geared towards helping
the treasurer
better
understand how PTA accounts should be managed. Learn all about
keeping
your
local PTA accounts in order. In addition, Bob will discuss
other areas of
importance,
such as, taxes, form 990, our new insurance, budgeting
questions,
carryover
funds for the summer, etc.

– 9 PM – This session will be led by Mr. Frank Aquino,
Chairman and Ms.
Ellen
Flynn Giles, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Education. They
will discuss
the
role of the Board of Education and the Department of
Education.
Please
share this information with your new and current officers,
committee
chairs
and anyone else that may be interested in attending this
training
workshop
and sharing session. We look forward to seeing you on May
20th!

your new officers know. They
are most welcome even if your elections have not occurred yet.
BACK PACK COLLECTION FOR STUDENTS –
June 2nd
PTA Council has once again joined the
partnership with the Prepare for Success program.
This program is a community-sponsored venture of many
groups in Howard County to provide students in need with the
basic school supplies. Each PTA is asked to either make a donation or provide
at least one backpack filled with the supplies listed below. Backpacks will be gathered at the June 2nd PTAC meeting.
Donations may be made through the website at
www.prepareforsuccess.org.
When making donations please put your PTA name in the
Company/Group entry on the checkout page.
If your PTA would rather write a check to Prepare for
Success, please have your delegate bring to the June 2nd
meeting or mail to the Council office. Thank you for helping
children succeed.
SUPPLIES NEEDED - 3-ring Binders, 24 pack
Crayons, 8-pack Large Crayons, Highlighters, Zipper, Supply
Pouches, 12" Rulers, Pencil Boxes, 3-hole Lined Paper,
Folders (2 pocket), Marble Composition Books, Pink Erasers,
Glue Sticks, Blunt Scissors, Dividers set (5-tab)
ELECTIONS
Elections are coming up for the local PTA
units. Please
remember to send the Council office your new officers contact
information right after your elections.
You might want to complete the form right after the
election when everyone is together, make a copy for everyone
and include one for the office.

(ptachc@gmail.com) which ever and how ever you wish to send
it. MD PTA also
requests you send your officer list but Council will be
sending it also so if you forget, no worries.
INSTALLATION CEREMONY
Newly elected PTA officers may be
installed in a ceremony, but this formality is not necessary
(Terms of office are designated in the bylaws.) Each local
association may develop its own installation ceremony, if it
chooses to have one, or adapt the suggested ceremony below.
Some PTAs recite the PTA Mission or Objects of the PTA
as a part of the ceremony, and ask that the past president or
someone else devoted to the PTA unit and its members act as
the installing officer. Three sample installations appear
below.

When you assemble a puzzle, if even one
piece is missing the puzzle is never right. This organization
is like a puzzle, it requires many pieces in order to be
complete.

recorded history of this organization is in your hands. Be

Flower Installation
(Items Needed: Carnations or Roses in the
following colors - one each - red, white, pink, yellow, and
green)
Will the officers to be installed please

To the President: You have been
chosen to serve the ________PTA as its president. Your duty as
presiding officer places you in a position of high
responsibility. There can be no greater charge, no higher
challenge than that which confronts you. The white flower was
chosen to present to you because it denotes purity and your
powers as president should have the purest of motives.
To the Vice President: As Vice
President of_______PTA the president will turn to you for
help in formulating his/her plans and for moral support.
You are to stand ready at any time when
called upon for assistance in anyway. Your flower is red
denoting the strength of which we know
you are capable.
To the Secretary: Pink expresses
knowledge, which your association will need from you. As
secretary of the __ PTA, you must have knowledge of the
business transpired at previous meetings and keep accurate
minutes of all meetings.
To the Treasurer: Yellow stands
for integrity, which we expect of a treasurer. We expect the
handling of the monies of________PTA shall be discharged in an
accurate and detailed manner, giving a report of our income
and expenditures at every meeting.
To the Council Delegates: Green
stands for dedication to the mission of PTA.
Your attendance at the monthly Council meetings and
reporting back of the issues that we should be advocates for
all children we greatly appreciate.
