PTA INSURANCE

A reminder that your PTA insurance premium and forms are due to MD PTA by April 15th (a week from Tuesday).  Questions, call MD PTA at 410-760-6221. 

Board of Education to Meet with PTA Presidents

The Board of Education will meet with PTA presidents and the Community Advisory Council at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2008, in the Board Room at the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108 in Ellicott City.  The meeting is an opportunity for members of the PTA and the CAC to discuss issues and concerns with Board members in an informal setting.

TREASURER’S TROVE

ALL PTAs must file a Personal Property Return by April 15. The PTA is an incorporated entity and this is required.  If your PTA did not receive one in the mail, you can download the form at: http://www.dat.state.md.us/sdatweb/pp1_2008.pdf

Some important things to know in completing the return:

The ID # prefix is “D”

The Federal Principal Business Code is: 813000

If the answer to C Section 1 is “No” complete questions D in Section 1 and skip Section II (2)

Section III (3) on page 3 must be completed

Sign and date the return, make a copy for your files and mail the document to the address on the top of the form  

WANTED: ADVOCATES, LEADERS, SUPPORTERS

The PTA Council of Howard County is accepting nominations of people willing to serve in elected position for the next school year: president, executive vice president, vice president of issues, vice president of operations, recording secretary, corresponding secretary, and treasurer.  A nominee for an elected position must be a local PTA member and have served for one year on a local PTA executive board. 

Many on the current Board of Directors/Executive Board will be retiring after serving for many years on their local PTA and at the Council level.  WANTED: Advocates, leaders, and supporters that have a desire to serve the county-wide community!  

To submit a potential nominee, email the person’s name, phone, and email address and what PTA they are from to ptachc@gmail.com.  The nominating committee will contact the individual.  (It will be anonymous)

BACK PACK COLLECTION FOR STUDENTS – June 2nd

PTA Council has once again joined the partnership with the Prepare for Success program.  This program is a community-sponsored venture of many groups in Howard County to provide students in need with the basic school supplies.   Each PTA is asked to provide at least one backpack filled with the supplies listed below.  Backpacks will be gathered at the June 2nd PTAC meeting.  Linda Martin from Prepare for Success will be there to pick them up.

 SUPPLIES NEEDED - 3-ring Binders, 24 pack Crayons, 8-pack Large Crayons, Highlighters, Zipper, Supply Pouches, 12" Rulers, Pencil Boxes, 3-hole Lined Paper, 5-Star Binders (no Velcro please), Marble Composition Books, Pink Erasers, Glue Sticks, Blunt Scissors            Thank you very helping children succeed.

If your PTA would rather write a check to Prepare for Success, please have your delegate bring to the June 2nd meeting or mail to the Council office.  Thank you.
