Meeting was called to order by President, Mary Jane Grauso at 7:35 at Department of Education
Building. Quorum was met. Delegates read the purpose of PTA. Introduction
of school officials.
BOE- Diane Mikulis, board chair responded to November 8 testimony given by
President Grauso. Mikulis
reported that there is no planned redistricting for Mt. Hebron School
slated for 2010 based on The Feasibility Study dated June 2007. This
report is a long-term look at enrollment projections and how capacity
issues – either over or under – might be addressed through boundary
line adjustments or capital projects. The document is available on the
Board of Education web site under “feasibility study”.
Mt Hebron HS continues to post minutes on their website regarding
their planning and design meetings. Ninety plus policies, including drafts
of revisions are all posted on the website. BOE is still seeking funds to
replace windows at Howard High School. Glenelg High School is scheduled to
have a second chiller for their HVAC . President Grauso requested BOE to
provide information of architect firms that have received
renovation/construction contracts over the past several years. (Action

Diane Mikulis requested that Council’s executive board meet with the board of
education members. President Grauso requested to meet with Board Chair
prior to meeting to set up an agenda. (Action Item)
BOE Chair Mikulis also offered to do a presentation on
navigating the hcpss web site upon request.
Treasurer’s
Report- Monthly budget report was available for reviewed.
Minuteswere reviewed and filed.
PTACHC
Networking Session is
scheduled for January 28, 2008. Please submit topics that would be helpful
for your PTA.(Action Item) Sandra French, BOE offered to be a
presenter at upcoming session.
Cultural Proficiency Program
is scheduled for January 9-10 or May 7
and May 8
from 8-4 at Loyola Campus 8890 McGraw Rd. Attendees need only attend 1 of
the training offerings either in January or May. Limited to 40 PTA members
or participants.. Must attend both full days. Contact John Krownapple at
DOE- 410.313.1560.
Coat Drive was very successful. PPW are working with schools to identify needs and
distribute coats and winter accessories. Coats can still be donated to
PPWs located in ARL building Room B47.
Book Drive- PTAs participating in this drive should start collecting books at their
school during January with distribution at the end of January into
February. It was suggested by a delegated to stagger donating books to
receiving schools.If you
plan to participate please contact Nehemiah Spence (nspence@gpsonline.com).
Guidelines will be emailed out to PTAs. (Action
Item)A Delegate suggested that new teachers trying to establish a book
collection could be recipients of books as well.
Joan Dykstra Award- PTACHC
is shifting focus of award from leadership to advocacy.New forms and Information will be available at January meeting. (Action Item)
Operating Budget Committee-
President Grauso will represent Council on DOE committee to review the
budget. Ellen Giles, BOE offered to give an overview of how the budget is
set up and works in order to assist delegates to feel more knowledgeable
of the process and more willing to review and comment on it.Action Item)
Library Program- Rita
Snyder’s presentation has been rescheduled for our January meeting.
MRSA Q & Ahandouts were available for
delegates to take information back to their members.
MDPTA Convention-
Atholton President, Caryn Lasser expressed her concerns that no Council
members or any local PTA members (besides Atholton HS) attended
November’s Conference. She encouraged each PTA to send at least one
representative to next years convention to be held in Frederick.
Policy9100-Education
for Pregnant Students is coming for public hearing December 13. Atholton
President encouraged PTAs to review that policy and compare it to language
in policy 9050 regarding disclosure. BOE Chair requested that comments
regarding the proposed changes be emailed to her attention-boe@hcpss.org.
